Wakefield Wildcats academy graduate Kyle Trout has been looking back at a landmark year for the 21-year old and has admitted to Wildcats TV it has been a ‘proud’ season on a personal note, not just the team as a whole.
The back-rower made his debut in 2012 and went on to make 11 Super League appearances for Richard Agar’s men, including coming off the bench in the dramatic 32-30 victory over Hull FC and featuring three times in the seven game winning run that meant Trinity reached the play-offs for just the third time in the clubs history.
Trout scored two tries in the process and in a taster to his interview with Wildcats TV which you can see in full HERE, the former Stanley Rangers man described what has been a season to remember.
“There is a lot to be proud of. We’ve achieved a lot from what people think we couldn’t achieve and we come out and got seven wins on the trot so it is great signs for the future.
“It has been an exciting year for me and obviously I played my debut then played a few games and I’ve been in the squad for a few of them big wins so it’s been a great experience.
“I hoped I would play as many games as possible because that’s what everybody plays rugby for, to play for the first team, but I didn’t expect to play that many.”
The number 22 wanted to praise the support the team has received all year on the back of announcing a 25% increase on crowds at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium and he says making his debut was a momentous occasion.
“I was very proud to make my debut and I have always wanted to play for Wakefield since I started playing rugby as an 11 or 12 year old.
“I’ve been here year in, year out watching some first team games and I’ve never known a crowd like it this year – they have been magic and helped us a long way and maybe pushed us and given us that little bit more energy with the chants and the cheers to maybe get some of them last minute winners we’ve got.”
Trout was speaking to Wildcats TV in an exclusive end of season interview which you can see in full HERE where he also discussed his expectations for next year, paid tribute to the coaching staff and conditioners at the club for putting in the hours to improve his game as well as talking more in-depth about his achievements next year and the effect the crowd has on the players.
