KIRMOND PRAISE FOR FANS ROLE IN 2012 SUCCESS

posted on 26 October 2012

Wakefield captain Danny Kirmond has spoken on behalf of the team to Wildcats TV to describe the “absolutely unbelievable” atmosphere at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium in 2012 and has urged all Trinity supporters to bring a few mates with them in 2013 ahead of Wednesday’s Gold Membership early bird deadline.

Danny Kirmond has praised the Wildcats fans for their part in the success of 2012.

Attendances were up an incredible 25% on 2011 as the red, white and blue faithful spurred Richard Agar’s men to an eighth place finish in Super League and were rewarded with only the clubs third play-off appearance.

The record breaking run of form coincided with Kirmond being handed the captaincy around the halfway mark in the season as the second half of the year turned into one to remember for the supporters as they attended in huge numbers to proudly support their team.

Gold Membership sales have been going strong and with just days remaining the 4,000 target is very close to being broken with the Wildcats fans eager to see the team line up in 2013.

In just a small taster to what the Trinity skipper told Wildcats TV – which you can see in full HERE, Kirmond explains just how vital the Wakefield support was last season and how he’s hoping for even more supporters to back the boys in 2013.

“It has been amazing and to be up 25% speaks for itself because it’s a massive increase and something that you don’t see happening in many sports,” said the skipper.

“That is something the fans really should be proud of and that coincides with the form in how well we have been playing and how much of a buzz there is around the place, it really has been built up from when Andrew (Glover) took over.

“I think we can keep building and hopefully all these fans that have been so good this year can bring a few mates with them next year and be even louder because it definitely helps us on the field and I think if it wouldn’t have been for the band at Leeds they would probably have been louder than the Leeds fans (in the play-offs).

“The home games have been absolutely unbelievable.  With everybody staying behind after that last home game it was really nice and I was really proud to look around and see everyone cheering the boys and thanking them for what they have done this year because we are really thankful for what the fans have done as well.

“It is loud with the roof on and it has created an atmosphere in there. We have an army that sing at the top and an army that sing in the bottom corner so it’s all good fun. There is a nice atmosphere around the ground and it is a nice place to watch rugby.”

That was just a snippet of an extended interview with the inspirational captain as he also discussed how becoming the skipper helped his own game and how his team mates are proud to call him their captain. He also talks about his aim of reaching an England squad while looking forward to pre-season and Dean Collis sticking to his personal radiator. Kirmo discusses all that and much more including a cheeky plea to Chairman Andrew Glover for a warm weather training camp, you can watch it all HERE.
