The Wildcats have unveiled the new 2013 home and away strips at Trinity Walk this lunchtime.
Fans were quick to snap up the new shirts that were modelled by the likes of Danny Kirmond, Richard Mathers and new signing Reece Lyne which are a nod to the clubs past.
The home shirt, manufactured for the first time by Australian company Fi-ta, marks the fact that 2013 will be the 50th anniversary of the clubs last Challenge Cup victory by incorporating the same red and blue chevron across the chest as was worn when a Harold Poynton inspired performance led Wakefield to the trophy for a fifth time in a 25-10 win over Wigan in front of more than 85,000 supporters at Wembley.
Poynton won the Lance Todd trophy that day for his man of the match display and he was on hand at the shirt launch to speak ahead of the unveiling and spoke of his memories from one of the most famous days in the clubs history alongside try scorer Ian Brook.
The away shirt is also a nod to another notable year in Wakefield’s history, the same design as that of the 1979 jersey that was worn by a Wakefield team at Wembley stadium in a Challenge Cup final.
Richard Agar spoke to the crowds ahead of the unveiling with the first team squad who have returned for training all in attendance to meet and chat to fans who braved the cold November air to be one of the first to get their hands on the shirts.
After listening to supporter feedback, the Wildcats logo is once again embroidered on the shirts that are also adorned by main club sponsor Eric France and feature the logo’s of West Yorkshire Windows, Fleetmaster, Everbuild, Unison, Key Security and Worthington’s, although this logo does not feature on the baby and junior kits.
Shirts are available from baby sizes upwards, with sixes 4XL, 5XL and 6XL due to arrive in stock soon.
Sizes 2, 4 and 6 are priced at £32.99; sizes 8-14 at £39.99 and adults sizes are £44.99 with shirts on sale now in plenty of time before Christmas in the Ridings Centre Store and online.
The Trinity Walk store is anticipated to be fully open for business by next weekend when the full training range is in-store.
