Wildcats captain Danny Kirmond is aiming to build on the success of 2012 and kick-start the new season with a bang following a long hard pre season.

Danny Kirmond can't wait for the new season to start on Sunday at Bradford.

Kirmond will once again lead the team out in 2013 after taking up the mantle midway through last season in which he was one of the club’s outstanding performers.

His role as captain sees extra demand for media interviews, including at Monday’s Super League launch at the Etihad Stadium.  The back-rower says the squad can’t wait to get the season underway.

He told Wildcats TV: “Everyone’s really up for it, it has been a long pre-season and a lot of hard work has been put into it. Everyone’s looking forward to that first game and getting out there.

“It has gone quick, it’s flown around really. It doesn’t seem two minutes since the last game and after the run we were on at the end of last season everyone’s come back in good spirits and really ripped into pre-season, so we’re looking forward to getting back on the field.

“We want to build on what we did last year and we don’t like to look back too much. Obviously it’s a new season and a fresh start. We have definitely set a marker of what we can do at the back end of last season.

“If there was anything negative about last year it was probably the start that we had so it’s really important that we put that right this year and really turn up from the first whistle.”

You can see the full interview on Wildcats TV tomorrow.
