Wakefield Wildcats have signed Leeds Rhinos prop Brad Singleton on a two-month loan deal.

Singleton in action against the Wildcats on Boxing Day

The 20-year-old Cumbrian has today completed his first training session with the Wildcats ahead of the pre-season camp in Portugal next week. The front-rower has been brought in to add strength to the forward pack with the former England academy captain looking to break into Super League.

Singleton has made one Super League appearance in each of the last two seasons at Headingley Carnegie and spent nine games at Dewsbury in 2012 to gain some first team experience. The youngster captained his national side in 2011 where he played alongside fellow new recruits Bobbie Goulding and Reece Lyne.

The Barrow Island youth product featured against the Wildcats in the 40-26 Boxing Day victory and started at prop while scoring two tries against the team he has now joined on-loan.

Singleton has been handed the number 23 jersey and joins the former Leeds contingent at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium alongside fellow Cumbrian Kyle Amor, Ali Lauitiiti, Lee Smith and Richard Mathers. The ambitious prop is delighted to have joined Trinity.

“I’ve really enjoyed my first day and I think it’s a very good club from what I’ve seen so far,” said Singleton.

“I need to be playing Super League because that’s the next step of my career. I feel I’m ready and it’s what I need to do for my own career to progress.

“My time at Dewsbury was spot on and something I really benefited from. It was such a good experience to go out and play some first team rugby which is what I am striving to do.

“I wanted more games at the Rhinos but with the run we had I struggled to get in the side so that’s why I’m after more games in 2013.”

Singleton joined the current Super League champions from Barrow in 2009 and explains what his visions are for his time at Wakefield.

“We have a good forward pack here and it’s going to be a big challenge to get into the side but that’s my aim is to battle with some very good props.

“I know ‘Marra’ (Kyle Amor), he needs a haircut but there’s a few like Lee Smith, Ali Lauitiiti, Reece and Bobby so there’s a lot of familiar faces which makes it so much easier to slot into the group.

“The first day is important and it has been so much easier knowing a few people and now I need to get to know people and their names.”

Although the deal is initially a two-month loan, Singleton is open to staying longer should his time at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium be a success.

“All I need is Super League games whether it’s here or at Leeds and the only way I can get better is by playing regular first team rugby at the highest level.”

The Wildcats head coach Richard Agar is pleased to have strengthened his front-row options.

“We needed to bring in one more prop to add some depth to that area of our squad and we are happy we have been able to bring in Brad. He is a young lad with a very bright future and he will certainly bring competition for places and will complement our pack.

“He will be going to Portugal with the rest of the boys and he’s here for two-months so he has time to prove himself and I feel he will make an impact because he is a talented young forward.”

Singleton could well make his debut against Featherstone Rovers on Sunday 13th January in a pre-season friendly at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium. Tickets are available from £10 for members if they pre-purchase while concessions and juniors are just £5. Tickets can be purchased from any of our three retail outlets either at the Stadium Box Office, Ridings Centre and Trinity Walk stores or by calling 01924 211611 / 201548.
