Wakefield head coach Richard Agar has admitted his side will have to up their game if they are to beat Huddersfield this Sunday at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium.
The Wildcats go into tomorrow’s 3.30pm kick-off in good form themselves after beating Hull KR before brushing off London 28-0 in the capital last week while the Giants have once again set the early pace in Super League.
The claret and gold are the only remaining side in the competition with a 100% record after beating St. Helens, London and Wigan in the first three rounds. Recent history suggests Huddersfield start seasons strongly and Agar said he is expecting a difficult encounter.
“A tough one, we’re playing top of the league and they’ve knocked off Wigan and Saints so it’s fair to say there is an air of confidence coming out around Huddersfield and they’ve started seasons well over a number of seasons.
“They look very strong and very powerful at the moment and they’ve got a big team that carry the ball really hard and tackle very strongly at the moment and kick the ball a million miles and very accurately too so they’ve started the season in good nick.”
Speaking to the gathered press, the Wildcats boss says the team have rediscovered their own form in training since gaining consecutive Super League wins.
“We did feel we were getting to exactly where we want to be, we didn’t feel that running into the season and we knew it would take a little bit of time. We also thought a number of clubs were also in the same situation as us.
“You can only try and beat what’s put out in front of you and every week brings different challenges and we’re well aware of the challenges that these guys are going to bring. We are at home, we’re on the back of two good performances and we know the levels that we have to get to and there’s no reason why we can’t go into the game in a good frame of mind.”
