Club 1873 Mega Draw winner Gary Southward described his £2,000 win as an unbelievable feeling after picking up his cheque on the Rapid Solicitors pitch at half-time on Saturday.

Gary Southward receives his £2,000 cheque from Club 1873 coordinator Lianne Orrell.

Twice a year Club 1873 produce a Mega Draw where one lucky member will be made £2,000 richer as a thank you to their continued support. The clubs lottery scheme is constantly gaining numbers and last week saw an incredible 12 different winners.

Club 1873 offers a wide variety of prizes from their daily draws which includes winning meals at the delicious restaurant Kashmiri Aroma, vouchers to spend in the club shop and Angelic Beauty vouchers too. Every week there is a guaranteed jackpot of £250 with £20 consolation prizes as well as spot prizes every month!

After receiving his cheque at the opening home game of 2013, Southward explains why he is part of Club 1873.

“I was only telling somebody at work the other day I do it to help the Wakefield youth and if I never won it I would still carry on paying it but to come home and somebody tell you that you’ve won £2,000 was – wow, it’s brilliant.

“Me and my daughter joined it when we went to that big meeting at Cedar Court and they said it was for the youth development at Wakefield. At the end of the day we all want the same, we’d love every club to have all English players and to me that’s the only way you can try and do it.”

The loyal supporter couldn’t believe his luck when he found out he was the winner of the latest Mega Draw as he explains.

“My daughter told me when I came home from work on Saturday morning because I was working nights last week. I got home in the early hours and she came downstairs to tell me, I was a bit shocked to tell you the truth.

“At first I didn’t believe her at all and then she said no dad, honestly so I went and opened a bottle of beer after that, it was very nice and an unbelievable feeling.”

“My daughter gets married next year so we’ll probably put it towards that and make it a bit more special probably, we are going to Paphos in Cyprus. We’ll buy one or two other things as well!”

The 36-20 victory over Hull KR saw a first win of the season for Richard Agar’s men and the prize winner can only imagine the way is up after the improved performance against Rovers.

“All bar 10 minutes in the first half we controlled the game and in the second half we were just as good. I can just see us getting better this season.”

As Gary explained, the biggest prize of all though is knowing you are contributing to the well renowned Wakefield Trinity Wildcats academy structure. For just £2 a week your money goes into improving the training facilities, attracting scholarship players to the club and overall funding of the youth programme.

Ryan Hudson has been appointed the Head of Youth Development while Stuart Dickens is the under 19s coach after being recruited in the off-season to further improve the process from academy player to first team regular.
