Wakefield were not the only club to gain a 16-0 lead before falling short as the Wildcats partner club Doncaster lost 42-22 away at Hunslet.
The Dons raced into a three try lead as Wakefield’s Bobbie Goulding kicked two successful conversions as he lined up alongside his Rapid Solicitors Stadium team mate Danny Cowling. Goulding then converted one more try in the second half as Tony Miller’s men fell to a convincing defeat at the South Leeds Stadium.
The Hunslet team featured former Wildcat Brad Singleton as well as a number of Leeds Rhinos first team players on dual-registration including Australian Mitch Achurch, Liam Hood and Jimmy Keinhorst.
Meanwhile, there was joy for Lucas Walshaw in the Kingstone Press Championship as his Dewsbury side beat Swinton 23-18 in a close fought encounter at Leigh Sports Village.
The second-rower started the game for Glenn Morrison’s side following his man of the match performance in the 46-8 win over Whitehaven last week.
The 20-year-old once again impressed and scored a crucial try to take his tally to three tries in two games. The Rams now sit in fourth place after the opening five rounds while Doncaster are ninth in the Championship.
This is Wakefield. Together We Are Stronger.
