Wakefield Wildcats had two players in action over the weekend in the Kingstone Press Championships as both Doncaster and Dewsbury slipped to defeat.
Centre Danny Cowling continued his impressive form at the Keepmoat Stadium in a close fought encounter as the well fancied Batley Bulldogs beat the Dons 24-18. The lead changed hands numerous times throughout the game as Cowling first of all set up a try for Dennis Tuffour before scoring himself.
The 21-year-old dived over in the corner after he evaded the efforts of the Bulldogs winger Johnny Campbell to take his tally to three tries in four games.
Wildcats partner club were level at 18-all but with just minutes remaining John Kear’s Batley went in front to win the game.
Lucas Walshaw also suffered a loss with Dewsbury, going down 36-22 away at Barrow after an amazing fight back by the Cumbrians.
The Rams stormed into a 22-0 lead before conceding 36 unanswered points. Walshaw started in the second-row and set-up a try after just 11 minutes. The young Wildcat fended off a tackler and powered downfield before teeing up Aaron Brown for the try.
Doncaster did claim a bonus point for their narrow defeat and sit in 9th position in the Championship while Dewsbury are 5th.
