Wildcats head coach Richard Agar has named a near full strength 19-man squad to take on Widnes on Friday at the Stobart Stadium, kick-off 8pm.
Only Richard Mathers misses out through injury while Agar welcomes back a host of first team regulars following the 66-6 victory over Hemel in the Tetley’s Challenge Cup.
Ten players who had a week off against the Stags could regain their place in the red, white and blue including captain Danny Kirmond and half-back partners Paul Sykes and Tim Smith.
The Wildcats did the double over Widnes in 2012 which included the opening day 32-14 victory in Cheshire and will be aiming to continue that form against Denis Betts and his team in Friday’s round 13 fixture.
Agar believes the ten players that had a rest last week will be stronger for it.
“I think certainly a couple of blokes will have benefited enormously from it such as Aiton and Washbrook who have had a heavy volume of work. It’s enabled us to be really fresh at the start of the week of training as well, we are mindful that some of the front-rowers pushed game time out and we felt we need that.
“(Justin) Poorey had almost two weeks off, Andy Raleigh has had a patch start to the year and we felt he would only benefit from playing longer stints and Kyle (Amor) and Olly (Wilkes) didn’t play as many minutes as we’d have expected.
“Chris Annakin had a week off as well and he’s been doing 55-60 minutes straight through and as a young kid and at this moment in time he wants to play I think freshening him up did him the world of good.”
