More than £1,000 was raised for the Wakefield Community Trust and Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust at Good Friday’s sponsored walk from the home of the Wildcats to Castleford Tigers.

Over £1,000 was raised by the Wakefield Community Trust.

Thanks to excellent work by the Trust staff and those who gave up their time to walk the ten mile route the, £1,000 target was achieved before they left WF1.

The walkers left the Rapid Solicitors Stadium at 3.30pm last Friday and arrived at the Wish Communications Stadium at 6pm after smashing the expected three hour journey time on a bitterly cold afternoon.

Director of Education Mark Winder was joined by General Manager Davide Longo amongst other Wildcats staff and supporters as friends and family joined in to raise funds for two very worthy causes.

Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust Fundraising Manager, Helen Mervill, also donned her walking shoes to be part of the walk that culminated in taking in the Wildcats comprehensive victory over Castleford, with everyone who took part able to purchase a discounted match ticket thanks to the generosity of the Tigers Trust.

“It was a really enjoyable afternoon as we made our way across to Castleford on Good Friday,” said Winder.

“Everybody joined forces and really did their best to gain sponsorship before getting under way and I think it’s fair to say it was a great success in reaching the £1,000 target.

“This was the first of many more fundraising events in 2013 and the support we continue to receive from the local communities is great to see and we need that to continue in order for the Trust to continue the work it does within the District.”

The Trust will soon have its own website in line with the relaunch which will help spread the message of the fabulous work they do. For more information on the Trust click HERE.
