A sunny Thursday evening saw Wakefield under 16’s Academy achieve another 50 point victory away at the Don Valley Stadium against the Sheffield Eagles.
An error filled game saw tries disallowed for the Wildcats but hard work in the forwards helped the under 16’s Academy win their third consecutive game of the season 50-10.
Both teams started the game with errors but Wakefield looked the more likely to score with a try disallowed for winger Matt Hick. With both forwards packs starting strongly the Wildcats were the first to capitalise on the mistakes being made with Nathan Stone crossing the whitewash for the first try after great support play.
The game continued in the same vein with mistakes from both sides leading to tries for Wakefield’s Tom Griffiths, Ben Cornell, Will Hudson with Sheffield’s Brad Keegan scoring just before half time. With the half-time score at 22-4 both teams needed to regroup and counter the mistakes of the first half.
The Eagles came out for the second half fired up and immediately scored through prop Ben Doxey and at 22-10 the game looked as though it would be a close affair.
Wakefield then improved and began to play with the same intensity they had shown in the previous games; Jamie Robinson, Sam Blake and Alex Parker all scored to take the Wildcats well into the lead.
The introduction of England international Jordan Crowther spurred Wakefield on, setting up a try for Liam Paisley and scoring himself towards the end of the game. A hard fought battle for the young Wildcats but the second half effort lead them to win 50-10.
Wildcats: Sam Blake, Declan Brereton, Connor Clarke, Jared Copley, Jordan Crowther, Ben Cornell, Thomas Griffiths, Matt Hick, Kieran Holt, Will Hudson, Max Jowitt, George Lord, Tom Megretton, Liam Paisley, Alex Parker, Luke Powell, Jamie Robinson, Callum Sampson, Mav Stacey & Nathan Stone.
