Wildcats head coach Richard Agar has confirmed Danny Kirmond is fit for this Sunday’s home clash with Wigan while Frankie Mariano is also set to return.

Wildcats captain Danny Kirmond is fit to face Wigan.

The Wakefield captain suffered a facial injury at the Magic Weekend but has been passed fit to face the Warriors but there is bad news too as Paul Aiton, Ali Lauitiiti and Tim Smith will all miss out through injury.

Trinity boss  Agar gave the latest injury news to the gathered media at today’s pre-match press conference:

“We’ve hit a bit of a spot with injuries and we have a few missing this week. Ali won’t be named in the squad and neither will Tim Smith or Paul Aiton.

“Danny Kirmond has come through ok, the initial prognosis immediately after the game was he had fractured his cheekbone but x-rays told us otherwise so that’s a real bonus for us. Danny as captain has led really well and I think we’ve had some players in there that are trying their upmost to rally the team but collectively we need more.

“We have another couple of question marks before we name our 19-man squad tomorrow. Those three along with Paul Sykes will definitely miss.

“I don’t know how long they will be out for at this moment in time but hopefully those three guys will be no longer than a couple of weeks maximum while we are hoping Paul Sykes will be back into contention for next week.

“He’s trained with the squad this week but he’s short of where he wants to be but with another week under his belt hopefully he’ll be back in the mix for Salford which is a slightly longer turnaround.

“Timmy is a shoulder, Paul Aiton is a combination of a number of things, he has a slight tear in his quad which is minor, a facial injury with his jaw which he suffered the week before but he had three or four direct blows on it at the weekend so it’s very swollen and he’s also fatigued.

“I think he’s been heavily worked and we feel he’s at the point where he needs a rest, despite the fact his quad would have stopped him from playing. Ali has a foot injury with his heel while Frankie is back in the mix this week.”
