UNCHANGED SQUAD TO HOST CATALAN

posted on 2 May 2013

Wakefield Wildcats have named an unchanged 19-man squad to host Catalan Dragons this Saturday 4th May, kick-off 5.05pm.

Australian star Justin Poore is expected to return against Catalan.

Trinity head coach Richard Agar is expected to welcome back prop Justin Poore after he missed the 28-26 victory over Widnes last Friday with Richard Mathers being the only first-team player who is out of the squad.

The Wildcats will be looking to gain successive Super League victories for the second time this season and will kick-off 40 minutes earlier than originally scheduled due to Sky Sports coverage.

There will be a full preview to Saturday’s game from Agar in the coming days and he has given the latest injury news while hinting Poore didn’t play on the i-pitch last week to protect himself from further injury.

“Possibly, it (i-pitch) was factored into our decision and it was a late call, he trained the day before but we were unsure and he was unsure.

“We felt once we factored everything in it was probably a risk for us in a game that we felt was a big game. That’s the decisions coaches are left with sometimes, you get your medical advice, a feel from the player how they are feeling and you weigh up the impact about a players psychologically.

“If he’s not 100% sure he is able to perform at full throttle and we made a decision to leave him out because we didn’t want to impact him further. We’ve a cup game coming up and obviously this important home game so we felt we could get the job done without taking any undue risks.”

Agar also says full-back and vice captain Richard Mathers could return against Hull FC next week in the Tetley’s Challenge Cup.

“He is back up and running again and his primary injury is healed and his ankle is the thing that’s holding up at the moment. Everything with his wedding tackle is ok and he has just got to make sure his ankle is right, he won’t be right this week but there’s a chance of being fit for next week.”
