Stu Dickens men returned to winning ways with an impressive defensive display, in a 22-12 win over Castleford Tigers at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium.

Danny Maskill featured for the Wildcats Academy in their win over Castleford.

The first half was an uneventful affair as both sides showed a solid set of defences with Reece Trout and Ben Passmore both coming close to scoring for the Wildcats and Tigers respectively.

After a real arm wrestle of a battle the Wildcats eventually opened the scoring on 30 minutes, as two great offloads from Scott Lee and Danny Maskill put James Healey through who went over under the posts.

Wakefield then managed to put together a period of sustained pressure but were unable to add to their first trying seeing the score stay 6-0 at the break.

The Wildcats soon added to their six point lead though in the second half, as an excellent run and offload from Lee put Mat Cook through who went over to double the hosts lead.

Castleford really didn’t know what had hit them as again Wakefield proceeded to score with their next attack, as excellent work from Healey and Tom Rodgers created space for Luke Metcalfe to go over.

The game continued to be one sided and unsurprisingly the hosts scored the next try of the half as excellent work from Lee and Trout again put through Brandon Conway, who crashed over in the corner to extend the Wildcats lead to 22 points.

This sparked a mini fightback for the Tigers as the visitors went on to dominate the reminder of the game. An excellent run from Jordan Anderson put through Liam Lunn to score.

Moments later Castleford really started to put pressure on the Wildcats and were into score again quickly as Lunn and Luke Day combined, to put Tommy Newbould through and see the deficit cut to ten points.

The Wildcats despite creating much attacking threat remained solid in the defence and as result kept their ten point lead intact, to see the score finish 22-12 to the Wildcats.
