Stu Dickens men held on for a 32-28 victory over Widnes in a thriller at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The visitors opened the scoring after a great run and off load from Connor Davies put Jordan Houghton through who went over to score in the corner.
The Wildcats responded quickly however, as Brandon Conway and Mat Cook combined to put Curtis McDonald through who went past two Widnes players to score under the posts.
The Vikings would respond in due kind as a quick counter attack led by Sam Mcgrony created space for Nathan Sharratt to go over which saw Widnes retake the lead.
Yet again Wakefield hit back quickly with an excellent offload from Cook allowing McDonald to score his second try of the game and see the Wildcats level it up.
Wakefield continued to put great pressure on the Widnes back line, which was rewarded when Jack Walton powered through three Vikings players and offloaded to Jack Anderson to score.
The visitors would score the final try of the first half though as Matt Whitgy offloaded to Kane Oitclyfzeld who powered through two Wildcat players to see the score 16-12 at half time.
The visitors started the second half strongly and struck first in the second 40, as quick offloads from Daniel Stapleton and Houghton put Will Wezr through, who went over to score in the corner for the Vikings.
That kick started the Wildcats back into life as a great kick from Scott Lee was picked up by Sam Doherty who went over to score. The hosts were at it again moments later as an excellent break and offloads from Conway and Anderson put Tom Rodgers through to score in an excellent team move.
The Vikings were not out of it however as an excellent interception and run from Houghton allowed Davies to go over to score and reduce the deficit to four points.
That try again prompted great pressure on the Widnes back line by Wakefield, which was eventually rewarded as excellent offloads from Kittrick and Walton allowed Reece Trout to score his first try of the game.
Widnes struck back yet again and scored the last try in a highly entertaining game, as an interception and run from Whitgy put Ed Chamberlain through who scored under the posts.
The Vikings continued to pressure the Wildcats for the rest of the game however, a penalty for a high tackle on Scott Lee allowed Kittrick to add two points to the score board and see it finish 32-28 to Wildcats at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium.
