Family means a lot to us here at Wakefield Wildcats…so we’re extremely proud to be supporting a new project dedicated to tackling domestic abuse in our community.
There were 9,913 victims in the region last year – most of them women – and the Strength to Change campaign is being launched to help them and their families.
It offers perpetrators of abuse the chance to access support and ultimately, change their behaviour and mend relationships.
Players and staff are all getting behind the campaign which includes a confidential website and phone line that Wakefield men can use to get specialist advice throughout August.
We’re one of three local rugby league sides – Castleford Tigers and Featherstone Rovers are backing the project too – reaching out to blokes in environments they feel most comfortable in, including sports venues and pubs.
To kick things off we’ll be hosting a very special launch during half-time at tonight’s game and we’ll be using #9913 to highlight the campaign across Twitter too – so please do show your support with a tweet.
We hope it will help people partners, friends, relatives and colleagues in our community find the ‘Strength to Change’.
If you feel you could benefit from the Strength to Change service visit: www.wakefieldstrength.org or call 0808 802 4040.
