SUPPORTERS DIG DEEP TO SPONSOR WILDIE IN 2014

posted on 11 February 2014

A group of Wildcats supporters have gone the extra mile to #backthebadge by coming together to become Matty Wildie’s player sponsor for 2014.

Matty Wildie and Ryan Williamson mark the sponsorship in front of the North Stand.

Fan Ryan Williamson set up the Facebook page ‘The Northstanders’ during last season to bring together the ever increasing number of supporters who stand behind the sticks every home game and cheer on their heroes in red, white and blue.

Initially set up as a page for the supporters to chat about all things Wildcats, Ryan took it upon himself to harness the passionate support within the group to help the club with its well publicised financial difficulties.

The group decided on player sponsorship and voted for Matty Wildie the player they would like to see sponsored by the fans.  Being a player sponsor brings with it a host of benefits, with Ryan organising a raffle to win the exclusive sponsorship perks such as the opportunity to be on the official team photo and an invite to the sponsor’s breakfast with the first team squad.

Raffle tickets were sold to generate the money required with fans quick to snap up the tickets and it wasn’t long before the funds were secured to make ‘The Northstanders’ player sponsor for homegrown talent, Wildie.

“It’s fantastic from Ryan and all the supporters who contributed,” said Wildcats Chairman, Michael Carter.

“It has been a tough five months or so for everyone involved with the club, especially the supporters who have been through this sort of thing before.  It’s a bit of a sporting cliché but players, staff and owners of clubs will change through time, but one constant is the fans.

“Supporters put their hands in their pockets to buy season tickets and merchandise and we certainly don’t take that for granted, but to go that extra mile to put more towards the club really is a fantastic show of support and one that reaffirms that we’re all in this together.”

“The club means a lot to the supporters and we wanted to help financially in any way we can,” said Ryan.

“The vast majority of supporters may not be able to sponsor a player individually but collectively we were able to do it and we’re delighted to be Matty’s sponsor this year.”
