Loan signing, Chris Riley thought the Wildcats were full value for their opening win of the campaign.

Chris Riley will spend the next month on loan with the Wildcats.

Riley joined from Warrington Wolves on a one-month loan deal on Friday afternoon and was straight into the starting line-up for the meeting with the Catalans Dragons yesterday.

Despite Trinity running in nine tries it was a relatively quiet day for the men on the wings as the Trinity pack led by the excellent Taulima Tautai dominated a Dragons side hit hard by injury.

Despite just one training session with the team, Riley said he felt confident his new team would come away with the victory.

“It was a great win,” said Riley after the game.

“I found out the news on Friday that I had the option to come down to Wakefield if I wanted to and I jumped at the chance.  I knew a few lads down here which made it a lot easier to come down and they made me feel really comfortable.  I feel like I settled in straightaway and I thought in the game the lads were great.

“I had a feeling we were going to get a win anyway but I didn’t think we’d get a win of that magnitude.  It was two sides who have got a few people missing but it was great to get out there and show what I can do.

“We just wanted the ball more.  A lot of tries weren’t just setup and pushed out wide, we put up kicks and chased hard for them to force them into mistakes.  We had to put ourselves in a position to score the tries and that’s what I thought the lads did today.  Tautai was class in that first half, I couldn’t give him enough credit and on the back of that our other players ran hard on the back of it.”

Riley was joined in making his debut by Nick Scruton, the duo following in the footsteps of Jarrod Sammut, Jordan Crowther and Luke Briscoe in wearing the red, white and blue for the first time in recent weeks.

Harry Siejka also arrived in the country on Saturday to add yet another new face to the squad and such an influx of new players in recent weeks made it easier for Riley to settle in.

“I wasn’t the only new face here so it’s a real time at the moment where we’re all getting to know each other and make each other feel welcome.

“It’s a great club and a great history, hopefully I can push forward what I can do and that can help the team out.  Hopefully the other new lads can push this club forward and today’s result shows it’s going in the right direction.”
