Taulima Tautai believes today’s win over Catalans Dragons can be a confidence boost for the new-look Wildcats.
Tautai set the ball rolling when he was in the right place at the right time to pounce on a Brent Webb error before rampaging his way to the line for his second and providing an assist for Jon Molloy.
With an influx of new players in recent weeks and after three successive defeats, Tautai hopes today’s victory can be a springboard moving forward.
“We had a couple of new players come in over the weeks so it’s good that they’ve glued in and been really good for the team,” said Tautai.
“Scrutsy came in and had an outstanding game today. The whole forward pack were good. We had Washy go down early so it was up to the forwards to step up and I thought we did.
“The last couple of rounds have been a bit shaky for me so it’s good to try and get a bit of consistency. Not just with my personal game but the whole team as well and I think we can do that. As long as I do my job for the team that’s the main thing.”
The Wildcats now look ahead to a trip to the capital to face London Broncos who themselves are seeking a first win of the season. Whilst pleased with the win, Tautai says Trinity must back it up on Saturday.
He also dedicated the win to the fans who have endured a difficult off-season and three losses at the start of 2014.
“It’s one thing to put one game together but we need to put two and three then kick on from there. We’re playing London down there and I think they’re looking to hit some form. We can’t go in there expecting an easy win. We need to go in there like we did today, complete our sets and find the middle.
“We didn’t start that well but you can’t really put a price on loyalty. One of the things we spoke about before we ran out for the game was that we need to think about the fans because they’re the ones who we play for. To hear them all through the game gives us that drive so thanks to the fans.”
