TOM JOHNSTONE EXTENDS CONTRACT AT CLUB

posted on 18 March 2015

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats are delighted to announce that Tom Johnstone has committed his future to the club by signing a new three-year contract.

The 19-year old signed his first full-time deal with the club last June and has opted to extend his stay at Belle Vue further, meaning he is now contracted until the end of 2018.

The former Stanningley junior has had a whirlwind couple of years since first being scouted for the Wildcats Academy. He was thrust in to the limelight in the 2013 Boxing Day friendly against Leeds Rhinos and impressed, which gave him confidence going in to the Under 19's season. A string of top performances in Stu Dickens' team lead to the winger earning the 'Players Player of the year' award, as well as signing a full-time deal for 2015.

Since then, he hasn't looked back, featuring in all of Trinity's pre-season friendlies prior to this campaign and currently knocking on James Webster's door for selection.

The flying winger is currently gaining quality first grade experience, on dual registration with Featherstone Rovers. He has featured in the last two matches for Andy Hay's team against Halifax and Leigh Centurions, respectively.
Johnstone joins Jordan Crowther and Max Jowitt in signing long-term deals and head coach, James Webster, believes he has a promising future in the Wakefield first team.

"We are really excited about having Tom here for the next three years," Webster addressed.

"He is extremely athletic and we look forward to helping him develop into a regular first-team player."

Chairman, Micheal Carter, is also excited by the youngster and has hailed the Club 1873 scheme.

"This is a further return on investment in the Club 1873 scheme and each member of our lottery should be proud of this" Carter said.

"I am delighted that Tom has extended his contract for a further three years. He is a natural athlete and I believe he will become a quality player for this club.

"I look forward to seeing Tom score many tries for Wakefield Trinity Wildcats."
