WAKEFIELD COLLEGE AND WILDCATS PARTNERSHIP IS A ROARING SUCCESS

WAKEFIELD College and the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have signed a new joint agreement which will see the institutions working more closely together. The partnership will see talented young rugby players benefit from access to first-class coaching and at the same time take advantage of the College’s expertise in providing education and training.

Wakefield College Principal, Sam Wright said: “Wakefield College and the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats are two organisations synonymous with the City and we are delighted to be working closely together. The new scheme will bring both sporting and educational benefits to young people in the area and I am looking forward to a long and prosperous partnership.”

“As the largest provider of education and training in the area, I know we have a vital role to play in the educational development of our learners and it is through such working partnerships that we will continue to transform lives through learning”.

Michael Carter, Chairman of the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats said: “Through working with Wakefield College and developing tailored programmes, young players will be able to access a first class full-time education in the classroom whilst at the same time working closely with our Super League standard coaching, and strength and conditioning teams. We are constantly aiming to meet the needs of our players and this partnership further cements that philosophy”

The partnership will also help Wakefield Trinity Wildcats with the development of home-grown players. Michael added: “This agreement will help to support the increase in the number of players in the current first team squad by ensuring we can fully meet their educational and sporting needs within Wakefield.”

Wakefield College runs a number of popular sports courses in areas such as Exercise and Fitness, Sport Employment, Coaching, Performance and Excellence and Exercise Sciences in addition to A levels.

The new Rugby Development Programme (RDP) in association with the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats is part of the Wakefield College Academy of Sporting Excellence which also comprises of the Football Development Programme (FDP) and the Athlete Development Programme (ADP).

The College’s sports department has had a number of successes in discovering sporting talent over the years including a number of rugby league stars who have gone onto ply their trade in Super League.
