Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have signed Leeds Rhino’s prop, Andy Yates with immediate effect.
The 25 year old has joined the Wildcats on an 18- month deal.
Yates, a product of the St Helens Academy and Thatto Heath amateur club, made his Super League debut in 2008 for St. Helens before moving to Hunslet Hawks looking to gain more game time.
The prop made 27 appearances at Hunslet before signing a deal at Leeds Rhinos in 2013; unfortunately he suffered a ruptured Achilles in pre-season which delayed his debut at the club. Yates’ move to Trinity comes in time to help strengthen the squad ready for the qualifiers which start in two weeks.
Yates has spoken about his move to the Wildcats saying, “I spoke to Brian and Michael weeks ago and they told me the plans for the club and how they want to stay in the Super League, and I want to help them. I want to try and do my best for the club and show what I can do as a player.”
Michael Carter said, “I’d like to welcome Andy to the club. I am delighted to have signed him on an 18-month contract and I would like to thank Gary Hetherington and Leeds Rhinos for making the move possible. Andy will provide competition for places in our forward pack.”
