Wildcats slump to a crushing defeat against Castleford Tigers
It was certainly a Valentines weekend to forget for the Wildcats when neighbouring side Castleford Tigers stormed to a 40-6 victory in the West Yorkshire derby.
Wildcats could not repeat history at the jungle after scoring only one try which came from Stuart Howarth in the 7th minute of the first half, Castleford came from behind to take the game in their stride.
A teasing kick from Liam Finn caused plenty of issues and was eventually Castleford lost the ball to put the Wildcats into possession. Stuart Howarth sneaked over from dummy half and scrambled the ball over the line, Liam Finn scored the conversion to make it 0-6 on seven minutes.
Castleford piled on the pressure after the 15 minute mark, with a bit of luck the home side, they got themselves back into the game after a misplaced pass from Paul McShane fell to the feet of Luke Gale who then scooped it up to find Solomona, Gale got the conversion to make it level on 6-6.
A penalty for the home side was given for a shoulder charge, the ball went out wide to find Ben Roberts who dodged the Wildcats defence to put them into the 12-6 into the lead.
The Tigers came close to scoring their third try of the game when Roberts pass to Monaghan drifted forward, soon after Dorn put the Tigers further into the lead when Castleford ran down the left side of the field, Luke Dorn walked it over the line to make it 18-6.
Castleford kicked off the second half with a try from Oliver Holmes, Luke Dorn caused chaos with another dummy run fooling the Wildcats defence to put it on the inside to find Holmes 24-6.
Joel Monaghan made a break down the field for Castleford Tigers, on the next play, Milner found a gap in the Wildcats defence to put it under the sticks and to go further into the lead 30-6.
Piling the pressure on the Wildcats defence, Castleford scored added another 10 points onto the board with a further two tries, Solomona and Holmes both grabbing their second of the game. However Gale was unable to convert the final try ending the game on 40-6.
