Wakefield over power Huddersfield to secure the two points in Chris Chester’s first game in charge.

It was the second win this season for the Wildcats and the first under new Head Coach Chris Chester as he took his first game in charge which saw the club climb to 10th spot.

Wildcats looked a lot more spritely and energised throughout the 80 minutes creating a lot of positive opportunities, it was a nervy last ten minutes of the first half when the Giants fought back to just four points but the Wildcats kept their focus and came out on top in the second half.

The home side had the first shout of the game when Liam Finn but a kick into the centre on the last ball to find Jacob Miller, however, the stand-off was unable to grip the ball when he pounced over the line and the Giants gained possession.

A few minutes later the Giants raced down the field, Leroy Cudjoe set McGillary up for the first try of the afternoon when he had space on front of him, Brough converted to put them 0-6 into the lead.

Tom Johnstone got the Wildcats back into the game after a fast set on the Giants 20m line. Jowitt who is starting his second game of the season found Johnstone to his left and on the last tackle he dodged the Giants defence and dived in the corner to score, Finn converted to put the home side back into the game on 6-6.

Brough fumbled a grubber kick from Jacob Miller, Mikey Sio was the first to react and pounced on the loose ball to put the home side into the lead, Finn converted to make it 12-6.

Another mistake from the Giants on the try line when Jared Simpson allowed the ball to bounce on several occasions and Lyne picked up to finish and put the Wildcats further into the lead on 18-6 after Finn converted.

Jake Connor got the Giants back into the game two minutes before half time when he got over the line at close range, Brough converted to put it 18-12. Soon after the away side were awarded a penalty on the stroke of half time, Brough got the extra two points for the away side to put them four points behind 18-14.

10 minutes into the second half the Giants got themselves back level when Connor stretched his arm over the line, Brough failed to convert to put it 18-18.

Jowitt got his second of the game to put the Wildcats back into the lead after a nice set across the Giants 20m line. A lovely flick from Finn to his left found Jowitt and confused the defence to get it over the line, Finn converted to make it 24-18.

Aaron Murphy got the Giants back into it after a long pass from Brough put Murphy in on the left corner, Brough failed to convert leaving the visitors two points behind with 13 minutes remaining of the second half, 24-22.

A fantastic try from Tom Johnstone which was a great contender for try of the season made a break from his own half and raced the length of the field to get the ball down behind the sticks; Finn converted to make it 30-22.

Scruton secured the win for the Wildcats after a great pass from Scott Moore which found the prop who got it over the line, Finn converted to give the Wildcats the two points with a 36-22 victory.
