WILDCATS V GIANTS CHALLENGE CUP MATCH PREVIEW

posted on 23 June 2016

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats will make the short journey to The John Smith’s Stadium for the second time in two weeks.

Tonight the Wildcats will take on Huddersfield Giants in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Quarter-Final, kick-off 8pm with the hopes of making it through to the semi-finals, something that hasn’t been done since 2008 when they faced Hull FC.

Wildcats beat Toulouse Olympique at the start of May to make it through to the last eight; Chris Chester has only made one change to his side that lost to Challenge Cup holders Leeds Rhinos last Friday night. Chris Annakin comes into the side to replace Mika Simon who misses through concussion.

The side will also be without captain, Danny Kirmond who was forced to pull out ahead of the fixture with the Rhinos with a knee infection. Nick Scruton also remains on the sidelines with a groin injury.

Huddersfield who have departed ways with Paul Anderson, beat the Rhinos to make it through to the final eight. Acting Head Coach, Andy Kelly has made two changes to their side that fought off Salford Red Devils last weekend with one point. Both Aaron Murphy and Ryan Hinchcliffe have been named and will replace Kruise Leeming and Tyler Dickinson.

The Wildcats have done the double over local side Huddersfield Giants this season with a 36-22 victory at Belle Vue back in March which was Chris Chester’s first game in charge. The second was when the Wildcats beat the Giants 10-02 at The John Smith’s Stadium 11 days ago.

Wildcats 19-man squad: Scott Anderson, Chris Annakin, Tinirau Arona, Joe Arundel, Matty Ashurst, Anthony England, David Fifita, Liam Finn, Stuart Howarth, Tom Johnstone, Ben Jones-Bishop, Max Jowitt, Reece Lyne, Jacob Miller, Jonny Molloy, Scott Moore, Mikey Sio, Bill Tupou, Jason Walton
