Just one week after making his first team debut, 18-year old Judah Mazive scored his first try in his professional career against Warrington Wolves in front of a home crowd at Belle Vue Stadium.
Mazive is a product of the Wildcats’ academy and has played a major role in the u19s side the past two seasons and has started training with the first team this year.
The youngster returned from a trip to Australia with the England Academy to earn himself a call up to the Wildcats’ first team squad when the side travelled to Wigan Warriors for the first fixture of the Super 8s.
“To be given the opportunity to go to Australia and represent my country is a huge honour. Then to get a call up to the first team on my return is the icing on the cake.
“It hasn’t been under the best circumstances with the number of injuries we have but I am grateful to feature in Chris Chester’s side. I have learnt so much from both games which I can take on board and continue to improve my game.”
The 80 minute performance against Wigan was enough to secure the winger a spot in the 17-man squad against Warrington Wolves last Sunday.
“It is really good to be able to get a run out” continued Mazive. “I never expected to get a shot this year; I have been pleased with my progress in the u19s and having the opportunity to train with the first team too. We have some great players at the club who have helped me so much this season and I have enjoyed playing with them.
“It was a great feeling to score on Sunday, it was a funny one as I had joked throughout the week with Jonny Molloy about a cut and pass and it pulled off in the game.”
The Club 1873 Lottery has played a vital role for the Wildcats’ Academy System providing the funds to help retain and nurture the young stars who are eager to earn a first team call up. Without this the club would be without players such as Chris Annakin, Tom Johnstone, Jordan Crowther, Max Jowitt and James Batchelor.
