MALCOLM SAMPSON RIP
It was with great sadness that the club learnt this morning of the passing of Malcolm Sampson following a long battle with illness.
Malcolm Sampson sadly passed away today.
Malcolm was one of the Trinity’s greats from the 1960s, playing at Wembley in 1963 and still remains the only Wakefield forward to ever score at Wembley.
He made his debut in a 31-6 win at Huddersfield in November 1959 and his third game, as a 19-year old prop, was against the might of the 1959 Australian Kangaroo tourists.
He was a well respected forward who was a 1963 RL Cup Final winner and played a total of 98 first team games (9 tries, 5 goals). It would have been many more, but for a broken arm that kept him out for almost three years.
Off the field Malcolm always had time for anyone and possessed a great sense of humour.
The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Malcolm’s family and friends at this difficult time.
