RALEIGH HAPPY WITH WINNING START
Andy Raleigh said victory over Widnes Vikings was the ideal start to the new campaign as the Wildcats now prepare to welcome Hull KR on Sunday (kick-off: 3.30pm).
The prop came off the replacements bench to score a rare try at the start of the second half as Trinity took control and put in a measured performance to take home the spoils.
With the Vikings playing in their first game upon their return to Super League, Raleigh believes it was a hard earned two points.
“We knew it was going to be a tough one because they’ve just come up and they’d want to set their stall out,” he said after the game.
“I think it was important that we got off to a good start and getting the win did that.
“I’ll take the try but I would have liked a bit more game time. I got a knee or a boot when I went over but I’ll take going over for the four pointer.
“It was a good team performance. In the first half, even though we were behind, our effort was massive.
“We didn’t get a few calls but that’s what happens in a game. We did the right thing by sticking to the plan and it obviously came good.
“The boys that started set a great platform from 1-13. You always say that your forwards have got to do it but it was great to see the wingers coming in and taking the touch carries.
“We had a few men down so it shows a bit of courage and character from our men which is obviously good to see. We’re looking forward to this week.”
