The Wildcats have continued their recruitment for 2014 with the signing of Samoan international Pita Godinet on a two-year deal.

The Wildcats have signed Samoan international Pita Godinet.

Godinet, who will turn 26 on Saturday, joins from New Zealand Warriors where he made 18 appearances in three seasons with the club, making a try scoring debut in 2011.

He played in all four of Samoa’s Rugby League World Cup matches, scoring two tries and creating three as the Samoans reached the quarter-finals.  Also comfortable at hooker, Godinet was named at halfback in the NSW Cup Team of the Year in 2010 and it is at scrum-half where he is set to ply his trade for the Wildcats having been handed the number 7 jersey.

Wildcats head coach Richard Agar commented: “He is a skilful player and I think he will make a big impact. He will also give us cover at six or nine.

“Half-backs are at a premium and it is a difficult time of the season to try and sign new players so I am delighted we have signed him and I certainly think he will add something to our squad.”

“Our first enquiry was rebuffed but I think Pita realised that it would be a tremendous opportunity to play in Super League and become an important player for us.”

We’ll bring you an interview with the man himself at the earliest possible opportunity.
