Former Hull KR man Ben Cockayne signed for the Wildcats on a one-year deal ahead of 2012 and within months the club extended it until the end of 2014. The winger spent almost five years with the Robins where he experienced promotion to Super League, a top-four finish and a play-off victory over Hull FC.
The number 5 spent the end of 2011 as part of the Featherstone Rovers side that lifted the Co-Operative Championship Grand Final and his versatility, tenacious spirit and enthusiasm have been a welcome asset for Head Coach Richard Agar.
On a personal note his start to life at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium couldn’t have gone much better scoring seven tries in his first seven games. His superb form convinced Agar to tie up the 29-year-old on a longer term deal.
Cockayne finished as the clubs top try scorer in 2012 with 16 including the play-off defeat at Leeds and top of the metres chart, only behind Andy Lynch, Sam Tomkins and James Roby in the entire Super League.
