Last night (Wednesday 29th September) the final league fixtures for the Wildcats Touch Rugby Leagues were played. In all, 12 teams have played 120 matches in two leagues over ten weeks. Now after all the fixtures are complete the Wildcats would like to congratulate the two teams that have won their respective leagues.
The Card Factory Blues won the Social ‘B’ League in style with a 5 - 2 ‘Derby’ win over The Card Factory Greens. The two sides contain work collegues from the Card Factory and have been having their own rivalry during work hours as well as here at the Wildcats. The Blues finished 2 point clear of their nearest rivals: the Double D’s.
In the Social ‘A’ League the Cobra Kai’s came out on top with a huge 11 - 3 victory over Belle Vue Cons. This ensured they finished the top of the league, 2 points above the Past Players which contains a few of the Wildcats very own former players! Cobra Kai’s finished with 19 points out of a possible 20 and were the only side of all 12 that took part to stay unbeaten.
“The leagues have been hugely popular this year. This is the first time we have run a touch league since 2008 and the first full league to be played at Belle Vue. Everyone I’ve spoken to has really enjoyed it, one of the guys even text me saying how much he’ll miss it and is looking forward to next season.” - Richard Cattley, Wildcats Development Officer
Trophies and medals were presented to the winning teams last night after their respective matches. The Wildcats would like to thank Back in Action Rehabilitation Ltd for sponsoring the trophies for this league.
The touch rugby isn’t over yet however. Next Wednesday all the teams will be involved in the Challenge Cup where they will battle it out against each other in a one off competition. Winners of the first round will compete for the Challenge Cup and the losers will enter the Plate.
“The Cup adds a little something extra, the format is different to what they have been playing in the last 10 weeks and it also gives the teams a chance to play against teams they might not have faced before.” - Cattley
Finally the Wildcats would like to thank all who took part and also Health Means Business for their assistance during the tournament.
