Wakefield Wildcats vs. Hull KR

Hearwell Stadium
Saturday 12th September 2009
Kick-off: 6pm

Two of the teams already assured of their place in the play-offs go head to head at the Hearwell Stadium on Saturday looking to round off the regular season in style.

Wakefield can still finish fifth should they win and Wigan Warriors fail to take any points tomorrow, whilst Rovers will be hoping to cement third spot by picking up the two points for themselves.

Tickets will be available at the turnstiles today.  Please be aware that the Wildcats Superstore will open at 12pm today and not the usual Saturday opening time of 10am.

The Form Book

Both clubs couldn’t have asked for much better form at this time of the season, with the Wildcats coming into the game off the back of four straight wins and for the Robins it is five victories in succession.

Last weekend Luke George made it six tries in three games since his return from injury with a brace in the south of France against Catalans Dragons.

The winger had also picked up two tries in each of the previous wins at Warrington and at home to Celtic Crusaders.  Prior to that the Wildcats secured a win over Salford City Reds.

You have to go back to the middle of July to find the last defeat for Justin Morgan’s side.  Since losing 24-14 to champions Leeds Rhinos they have swept aside five opponents in a row including Challenge Cup Winners Warrington Wolves at Craven Park last weekend.

Clint Newton went in for a hat-trick of tries on the way to a comfortable win for the men in red and white.

Team News

Wakefield lost the services of Sean Gleeson last weekend after suffering a fractured jaw and eye socket in the win over the Dragons, with his place in the 19-man squad being taken by Aaron Murphy.

Brad Drew and Luke George were both ruled out on Friday with James Davey and Dale Morton coming into the squad.

Other than Gleeson’s season ending injury John Kear has no new injury concerns with Tony Martin, Damien Blanch, Ricky Bibey and Matt Petersen all long term absentees.

For Rovers Stanley Gene is back in the squad and he is expected to make his farewell appearance this evening.

Pre-match Entertainment

Performing pre-match will be Voice of Yorkshire 2009 winner Kortni Turner.

The 18-year old won the title just a couple of weeks ago and she will provide an excellent build-up to the big kick-off.

Previous Meetings

Hull KR got the better of an injury ravaged Wildcats side way back in March when tries from Gleeson, Kevin Henderson and Dale Ferguson were all Wakefield had to show for in a 31-18 defeat.

It’s a long time since the Rovers last played at the Hearwell Stadium.  In March 2008 Wakefield claimed a narrow 22-20 win over the men from East Yorkshire with Ryan Atkins claiming two tries and Sam Obst adding another.

After the match

Make sure you stay behind after the game as the Wildcats players will be dong a walk around the pitch to thank the fans for their fantastic support in 2009.

And when that’s finished why not visit CATS Bar where there will be a disco and the much anticipated 101 Grand Prize Draw.  Tickets are still available for this massive draw with some excellent prizes to be won, so make sure you get your hands on some tickets before the draw.

SWAG Petition

This week Stadium Wakefield Action Group (SWAG) launched a petition in support of the proposed Newmarket development.  The development- at the heart of which will be a 12,000 Community Stadium which they Wildcats are proposed tenants of- is now in the detailed planning stage and SWAG are looking for 10,000 signatures to show support for the development.

But SWAG don’t just want your signature they want your help gathering signatures.  If you want to help reach the 10,000 target meet outside the Wildcats Superstore at 4.30pm on Saturday to get your petition.

The club wholeheartedly encourages as many fans as possible to help SWAG gather signatures.

Ticket information

Tickets will be available in the Wildcats Superstore until 5pm on Friday and will also be available to buy on the day.

Again, please be aware that the Superstore will open at 12pm and not 10am on Saturday.
