engage Super League XIV- Round 20
Wakefield Wildcats vs. Leeds Rhinos
Hearwell Stadium
Kick-off: 8pm

West Yorkshire pride is up for grabs once more tomorrow evening when Wakefield Wildcats welcome Super League champions Leeds Rhinos to the Hearwell Stadium.

With our neighbours from the ‘big city’ sure to travel in large numbers tomorrow night is your chance to show your pride in your city and your team.

The Wildcats are enjoying their best Super League season ever and are sixth in the league standings with eight games left to play.

And tomorrow night John Kear’s men face the toughest challenge Super League has to offer in the form of the Leeds Rhinos.

With England World Cup stars Rob Burrow and Danny McGuire forming a lethal half-back pairing and the likes of Brent Webb, Ryan Hall and Keith Senior all carrying a try scoring threat the Wildcats will need to be at their best to claim a first ever Super League win over Leeds at the Hearwell Stadium.

With your support behind the team then the chances of the Wildcats claiming a famous win is even greater!

Who can forget the last time Wakefield were in action at home and Danny Brough converted Scott Grix’s last minute try to snatch a dramatic late win.

Make sure you don’t miss out on the chance of seeing Wakefield testing themselves against the champions this Friday night by making sure you have a ticket.

You can buy online, via the ticket hotline on 01924 211611 or in the Wildcats Superstore.

Now is the time to show your pride in your side- can you really afford to miss out?

The Form Book

Wakefield go into the game looking to bounce back from the disappointment of losing 30-14 to Huddersfield Giants last week.  Tries from Scott Grix, Tony Martin and Matt Petersen weren’t enough as the Giants claimed a couple of late tries to secure victory.

The Wildcats form before that has been fairly solid with just one defeat in the previous four coming against the Bradford Bulls at the Grattan Stadium.

The Wildcats claimed a last gasp victory over Harlequins RL in the last home game

Leeds look ominously like timing their run into the play-offs to perfection once again and are on a run of just one defeat in eight games and are currently enjoying a four game winning streak.

Last time out they kept held off a second half fight back from Hull FC to claim a 43-30 win with Keith Senior crossing for a try on his 500th first grade appearance.

Team News

Trinity will definitely be without Tony Martin who picked up a shoulder injury against the Giants last week, but do welcome back Brad Drew after he missed the defeat against his former club with a rib injury.

Kevin Henderson returns to the 19-man squad in place of Frank Winterstein.
Brian McClennan has been boosted by the return of full-back Brent Webb to his already impressive squad with Mike Ratu retaining his place in the squad.

Previous Meetings

Leeds have the enviable record of having won on their last 14 visits Wakefield, with the last Trinity success on home turf coming in 1992.

Last season the Rhinos turned on the style on their first visit in 2008 with Ryan Atkins and Luke George claiming consolation scores as Leeds turned in an outstanding first half performance to canter to a 44-8 victory.

Brad Drew is back after missing last week's defeat to the Giants

They returned for the last game of Super League XIII and cruised to a comfortable 30-12 win with a Scott Grix brace for the home side.

The two teams went head-to-head in the second week of the season at Headingley Carnegie where the Wildcats more than held their own but couldn’t break through a stingy Leeds defence.

Tony Martin’s two penalties were all the Wildcats had to show for their efforts as Leeds claimed an 18-4 win- Jamie Jones-Buchanan claiming one of the tries.

Pre-Match Entertainment

As well as all your usual favourites including performances from the Wildcat Dolls there will be an all girls rugby festival on the Hearwell Stadium pitch.
